Kyambura Gorge Lodge – Luxury Safari Stay in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Kyambura Gorge Lodge

Kyambura Gorge Lodge is located in Queen Elizabeth National Park in western Uganda. The lodge was converted from an old coffee store into a luxury safari lodge, offering comfort in the wilderness. It is one of the best places to stay if you plan to track chimpanzees in Kyambura Gorge Forest.

The lodge has eight luxury bandas built in a traditional style. Four of them are deluxe, with en-suite showers, hot running water, and flush toilets. Each guest is assigned a personal butler. All the bandas are named after chimpanzees found in Kyambura Gorge.

The swimming pool and spa provide a good place to relax after a day of game drives. The dining area overlooks the savannah plains and offers meals prepared by experienced chefs. The bar is well stocked with different drinks, and Wi-Fi is available in the main lodge.

Kyambura Gorge Lodge is set in a location with views of the savannah plains, Kyambura Gorge, and the distant Rwenzori Mountains. Guests can also take part in guided walks to a reclaimed wetland, the Kyambura buffer zone, and other areas.

Activities at Kyambura Gorge Lodge

  • Chimpanzee Trekking: This is the main activity in Kyambura Gorge. Treks last 3–4 hours depending on the location and movement of the chimpanzees. Children under 15 years are not allowed to join.
  • Game Drives: Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to many animals. Game drives and boat trips are good ways to see elephants, lions, antelopes, warthogs, hippos, and more. The best time is early morning or late afternoon.
  • Boat Cruise: The popular boat cruise is along the Kazinga Channel, which links Lake George and Lake Edward. In the afternoon, animals gather along the channel, and visitors often see elephants, hippos, crocodiles, antelopes, and many birds.

Getting There

Queen Elizabeth National Park can be reached by road in 5–6 hours from Kampala or Entebbe. Chartered flights are also available to Mweya Airstrip inside the park from Entebbe International Airport or Kajjansi Airfield.

Best Time to Visit

The park can be visited all year round, but June to August and December to February are the best months. During these times, the vegetation is thinner, making wildlife easier to spot.
