Boomu Women’s Camp – Budget Community Lodge near Murchison Falls Uganda

Boomu Women’s Camp

Boomu Women’s Camp is located at the edge of Murchison Falls National Park. The name “Boomu” is a local word meaning “Together,” which reflects how the group was created by women working together for mutual and community benefit.

The group started in 1991 with 40 women from Kiragara and Kihaguzi villages. They formed it to reduce poverty, fight malnutrition, and earn income to pay school fees for their children by selling the small surplus of produce they had.

The camp is about 100 yards from the entrance of Murchison Falls and less than 10 kilometres from Kaniyo Pabidi chimpanzee eco-tourism site. It is also part of the Uganda Community Tourism Association and is one of the best budget places to stay near the park.

Boomu Women’s Camp has a craft shop where visitors can buy handmade items. The camp also rents cars for self-drive safaris and offers camping gear.

Accommodation includes 7 bandas, one double banda, and a building with 2 triple rooms. Facilities include shared bathrooms, mosquito nets, electric lights, and showers with hot and cold water. It is a simple but comfortable budget facility near Murchison Falls.
