Heritage Safari Lodge is found inside Murchison Falls National Park. The lodge is built in a traditional African style with grass-thatched round huts that combine modern comfort and eco-friendly bathrooms.
Murchison Falls National Park is located in northwestern Uganda and covers 3,893 square kilometres. The park is home to 46 species of mammals and 451 species of birds, including 59 restricted-range species. Chimpanzee tracking can also be done in Budongo Forest, which is part of the Murchison Conservation Area.
The restaurant serves meals both from an à la carte menu and buffet, as well as local Ugandan dishes. The bar offers a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks and gives wide views of the River Nile. Guests can also enjoy an early morning breakfast while watching the sunrise.
Activities at the lodge include guided nature walks on trails created by the lodge, visits to the local community, bicycle rides, boat rides, and even aerobics by the riverbank.
The lodge also celebrates Luo culture. In the evenings around the campfire, guests can enjoy folktales, storytelling, and Luo songs. The lodge has a collection of Luo artefacts, maps, and historical pictures on display.
From the lodge, you can take a game drive into Murchison Falls National Park or visit the Heritage Hot Springs at the Kamshiko River. The hot springs act as a salt lick that attracts animals, especially elephants.
Accommodation is provided in both luxury and standard cottages. There is also a campsite where you can pitch your own tent or rent one from the lodge. Each cottage offers views of the Albert Nile, the hot springs, and the surrounding countryside.
