Ishasha Wilderness Camp – Luxury Tented Lodge in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Ishasha Wilderness Camp

Ishasha Wilderness Camp is an exclusive lodge located on the banks of the Ntungwe River in the southern sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This area is well known for its tree-climbing lions.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most visited parks in Uganda. It has a rich ecosystem with many habitats and is home to over 600 bird species, making it a favorite for bird watchers.

At the camp, guests can enjoy sundowners at a viewing point along the river or on the ridge in the late afternoon. Bush breakfasts can also be arranged when the weather allows.

Accommodation is offered in 10 spacious wooden-framed canvas tents, each with a private veranda overlooking the river. The tents are furnished with mosquito nets, en-suite bathrooms with bush showers, and eco-friendly flush toilets.

Meals are served in the central lounge and dining area, with a menu offering both local and international dishes. Drinks are available at the bar, and in the evenings, a fire is lit outdoors, giving guests a chance to relax and listen to the sounds of the wild. Meals can also be served by the riverside.

There is a small gift shop with handmade crafts, free internet, and charging facilities. The staff are welcoming and ensure guests feel comfortable throughout their stay.

Accommodation rates vary depending on the season. Children under 5 years stay free, while those between 5 and 12 years get discounted rates.

Activities in the Park

  • Community Tours: Guests can join tours to nearby villages. One highlight is meeting Agatha, a local woman who introduces visitors to daily village life, including how food is grown, harvested, and prepared.
  • Birding: Over 600 bird species can be seen in the park. Some, such as black bee-eaters and the narina trogon, can even be spotted around the camp. Other species include yellow-backed weavers, wattled plovers, African jacanas, black crakes, knob-billed ducks, and African fish eagles.
  • Game Drives: The Ishasha sector is famous for its tree-climbing lions. Game drives also provide chances to see elephants, Ugandan kobs, warthogs, bushbucks, and other animals.
