Broadbill Forest Camp is located in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, home to about half of the world’s mountain gorilla population. The park is also home to other primates, including chimpanzees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and red-tailed monkeys. More than 15 habituated gorilla families can be trekked in Bwindi.
Broadbill Forest Camp is a budget-friendly lodge in the Ruhija sector of Bwindi. The camp is named after the African green broadbill, a rare bird often seen in this part of the park.
Accommodation includes tents built on raised wooden platforms with grass-thatched roofs, designed to blend with the environment. There are four self-contained safari tents, each with comfortable beds and hot showers. In the evenings, a fire is lit where guests can relax and share stories of the day.

Birds commonly seen include Grauer’s thrush warbler, Shelley’s crimson wing, Chapin’s flycatcher, African green broadbill, short-tailed warbler, African giant swallowtail, pink-footed puffback, yellow-rumped tinkerbird, crested guinea fowl, and Ruwenzori batis.
Gorilla Trekking from Broadbill Camp
Gorilla trekking is the main activity in Bwindi. Only eight visitors are allowed to track a gorilla family each day, and trekkers must be at least 15 years old and free from communicable diseases like flu or cough. Once a gorilla family is found, visitors spend one hour watching and photographing them.
Booking Gorilla Permits
Uganda gorilla permits cost $800 per person, while gorilla habituation permits cost $1500 per person. These should be booked 3–6 months in advance to secure availability, especially in peak seasons.
