Gorilla Safari Lodge – Luxury Rain-forest Lodge in Bwindi Uganda

Gorilla Safari Lodge

Gorilla Safari Lodge is part of Crystal Lodges Uganda and is one of the luxury options for visitors to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in southwestern Uganda. It is well known for being home to almost half of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. The park also has rich biodiversity and is home to more than 351 bird species.

The lodge has 18 spacious cottages with en suite bathrooms, hot and cold running water, solar-powered lighting, and private verandas with views of the tropical rain-forest. Five of the cottages have two rooms with interconnecting doors, making them suitable for families or groups of friends.

For families, babysitting services are available. The restaurant serves continental meals, and the well-stocked bar offers a variety of drinks. Guests can relax in the shared lounge or sit around the campfire each evening to share stories of their gorilla trekking experiences.

Activities at the lodge include canoeing, hiking, nature walks, guided treks, visits to Bayenda Falls, bird watching, and forest walks, available at an additional cost. Before booking accommodation, visitors should make sure they have a gorilla permit for either the Rushaga or Nkuringo sector of the park.

The lodge also has a spa, offering massages after long journeys or gorilla trekking. Children from 0–4 years staying with their parents are not charged. Children aged 5–7 years pay half the adult price, while those aged 8–12 years pay 75% of the adult price. Gorilla Safari Lodge also organizes tailor-made safaris, including flight packages.

Popular Activities near Gorilla Safari Lodge in Bwindi

  • Gorilla Trekking: Gorilla trekking is the most popular tourist activity in Bwindi. The endangered mountain gorillas can only be found in their natural habitat in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Trekking usually begins early in the morning and can take from 30 minutes to 7 hours before finding a gorilla family. Visitors are then allowed one hour to observe and take photos.
  • Gorilla Habituation: Gorilla habituation is another activity for those who want to spend more time with the gorillas. Unlike trekking, which allows one hour, habituation gives visitors four hours with the gorillas. The process of habituation takes 2–3 years, during which researchers and rangers visit a gorilla family daily until the group is ready for tourist visits.
