Do you want to check availability of Uganda gorilla permits online and book them as you plan your trip? If you want to visit gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park then you will need a Uganda gorilla permit.
These permits are sold by Uganda Wildlife Authority on first come first serve basis and are non refundable. The biggest challenge tourists face is to checking Uganda gorilla permit availability online and most of the times they contact Uganda tour operators to do this for them.
It would have been much easier if clients checked Uganda gorilla permits availability online before even inquiring with any of the tour operators. The advantage to this is they would set their dates prior and plan accordingly. Years ago AUTO proposed having Uganda gorilla permits online but Uganda Tourism Board and Uganda Wildlife Authority declined this.
Till today, there is no clear way for tourists to check availability of Uganda gorilla permits or book them online independently. They have to go through a tour operator.
In this article, i will show you how to check availability of permits for January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November and December.
Checking Uganda Wildlife Authority Gorilla Permits Online
Apparently, there are three ways of checking gorilla permits online. The first is calling Uganda Wildlife Authority by phone direct and inquiring about availability, second and third is going through a tour operator like the ones these companies listed here.
Phoning Uganda Wildlife Authority. Uganda Wildlife Authority will always disclose the availability of permits to you at no extra charge. You just have to call them on these numbers: +256 414 355000 / +256 312 355000. I consider this the best option as it will avail to you an up to date list.
Reaching out to a tour operator. A tour operator can help you check availability of permits for your preferred dates or month. Using a tour operator becomes very essential especially when inquiring about permits of high seasons. The advantage to this is they can check and reserve for you even when only a few permits are left for a particular date.
Imagine a situation where only 2 gorilla permits are left for your date and you want to book them. You might phone Uganda Wildlife Authority and they confirm availability for 2 permits and then an operator buys them after a few hours.
Look, you can never call Uganda Wildlife Authority and book permits there and then. You will have to go through a process of remitting the funds which usually takes a couple of days to reach them.
A tour operator can inquire about availability and book them permits for you there and then then liaise with you to make payments. These recommended Uganda tour operators should help you do this at no charge.
The gorilla permits availability sheet. AUTO often avails a gorilla permit availability sheet to its members. This sheet helps them plan accordingly for their trips. A few operators will avail this sheet to you via email and you will be able to check availability for your preferred dates.
This is however, not recommended by the association. A tour company can only risk to do it.
As for my opinion, i suggest you go through an operator as it is much safer that way. If you are planning your trip for 3 or more months ahead then you can call Uganda Wildlife Authority direct. Pregnancy gorilla trekking cases need a longer span than this. 6 months or more is recommended.
After confirming availability, you can go ahead to book your flights so that you can make payments for your safari. Like mentioned earlier, gorilla permits are sold on a first come first serve basis and get sold out quickly. The earlier you book your safari, the safer.
